• Join us for our fifth and final 'Conversations and Screenings' event for the year, before the Made in Palestine team returns to Palestine to continue our humanitarian work in the West Bank. Screening the Palestinian documentary 'Arna's Children'. Dir. Juliano Mer Khamis and Danniel Danniel (2004). With live conversation with Olive Kids board member, Mohammad Othman. All proceeds from this event will be donated to Olive Kids.

    ABOUT THE FILM:

The film documents the building of the Freedom Theatre, an alternative education system for the children of Jenin Refugee Camp. The film highlights the lives on each child, against the ongoing presence of occupation, uprisings and resistance. Following the 2002 Battle of Jenin, the filmmakers return to the Refugee Camp in search of the children they taught.

    ABOUT THE GUEST SPEAKER:

Mohammad is a Palestinian Australian and the son of refugees from Qalunya, a town which was destroyed in the Nakba of 1948. Through his family's heritage and a deep connection to his homeland, Mohammad is determined to passionately advocate for Palestine and support its people, which led him to Olive Kids in 2013. Olive Kids works tirelessly with their partners on the ground in Gaza, delivering emergency aid to Palestinian children and their families.

    ABOUT THE FILMS:

'Up to the South' (Talaeen a Junuub), directed by Jayce Salloum and Walid Ra'ad, is a powerful experimental documentary which examines the politics and economics of South Lebanon against the backdrop of the Israeli occupation. The film focuses on the social, intellectual and popular resistance to the Israeli occupation, as well as conceptions of "the land" and culture, and the imperiled identities of the Lebanese people.

'Yaroun 2023' directed by Zeinab Mahfoud, is a documentary following an immigrant’s return to his home village in the Jnoub (South Lebanon). As he sings folk songs about searching for his home, the neighbours discuss the history of Israeli occupation and war against the Jnoub, all while warning us to flee before the situation intensifies pre-October 7th. The audio used in the short film were recorded on the 24th of September 2023. The visuals were recorded on the 1st of October 2023, during Mahfoud's last visit to Yaroun.
